GEWI piles

GEWI piles are foundation elements with a grout diameter of 120-250 mm that transfer both tensile and compressive forces into the subsoil. The pile consists of a steel rod with a coarse, helical thread along its entire length surrounded by a cylindrical grout body. The GEWI rod is inserted into a pipe sleeve that is installed in the soil by means of drilling, driving or vibrating. Afterwards, the space between the pipe sleeve and the rod is filled with grout. The pipe sleeve is then gradually withdrawn, while pumping grout in the pipe sleeve under pressure to improve the capacity. The rods can have diameters of 16, 20, 25, 28, 32, 40, 50, 63.5 and 75 mm. Single or double corrosion protection can be applied for permanent applications.

Application

GEWI piles are used as vertical anchors for underwater concrete floors in combination with the floor of the structure and as tension piles/bearing piles in confined spaces. Suitable for repairing foundations (small drill diameter).

Ambient factors

  • Can be installed with no vibrations and low noise;
  • Can be cast against water pressure;
  • Can be installed vertically and at an inclination;
  • Can be installed in confined spaces;
  • Can be electrically insulated.

Pros and Cons

  • The anchors can be installed from the ground or from a pontoon.
  • Removable;
  • The product depends on the obstacles in the subsoil;
  • Drilling process produces drilling mud at ground level.
