Vibro compaction is compaction of the soil using a vibrations. In oursystem, the vibrator is not located in the needle (as with other systems), but on the needle similar to vibrating a sheetpile. By vibrating the needle, the surrounding soil is also vibrated, creating better soil packing. The degree of compaction depends on the composition of the soil: a high fraction of silt or clay limits the level of compaction or may result in no compaction at all. The compaction result can be significantly improved by selecting the right composition of the back filling material prior to compaction. For determining the compaction grid, a test field with different centre-to-centre distances is created, from which the most economical dimensions are determined after cone-penetration tests.
Vibro compaction is used in situations where back-filling and compaction in layers is not possible or not applied. Compaction can be performed from a pontoon or from ground level.
