VSF has constructed steel sheet pile walls at various locations. VSF has a design department that can make all necessary calculations and drawings for the sheet piling. When the ambient conditions and the construction allows, the sheet piling of construction pits is removed afterwards. Sheet piling can be installed from pontoons or from land. The sheet piling can be driven or vibrated or installed without vibrations by means of hydraulic pressing; it can be removed using a vibratory hammer or without vibrations by means of jacking.
Sheet piling is mostly used as a temporary structure in building pits and as a permanent construction in retaining walls. VSF specialises in the installation and removal of longer sheet piling (starting around 18 metres). For accuracy and risk minimisation VSF usually installs the sheetpiles using a pilingrig with a leader-guided vibratory hammer.
Although a vibratory hammer produces less noise thans a piling hammer, the installation and removal of sheet piles does come with noise nuisance. Nuisance from vibrations to the surrounding area is minimised by using high-frequency vibrators with a variable moment. The impact can be further minimised or prevented by pre-drilling or high pressure water jetting, while the use of a piling rig with leader ensures optimum use of the vibratory hamme.
